Wrapping Up 2015

A couple of days ago we said goodbye to 2015 and welcomed 2016, making this the first Sunday, and thus my first blog post of 2016. Before moving forward, I will look back one last time at 2015 and what it meant to me, and more specific to this blog.

As a software developer it is hard to get a name for yourself because it is hard to see what you achieved from the outside. Moreover I still consider working abroad as a future step in my career, which is even harder to achieve if nobody has ever heard of you. While doing some research I came across multiple sources that encouraged writing a blog to gain some ‘fame’, which is the reason why all of this exists now.

This blog has been an adventure, and has grown from nothing to 27 blog posts. I have done this in a disruptive pace of one blog post each week. This sometimes caused a lot of stress on the topics, and led to some post of lesser quality, but I felt it was a necessity to get a solid base for my blog and release a blog post at a certain fixed interval. As an experiment I will only release one blog post every two weeks in 2016.

My blog currently attracts an average of 2 visitors a week, and though this is not much it is a sign that my blog can be found. In 2016 I will also try to promote my blog more actively, which should help me get more visitors. I still remember I was very enthusiastic when I saw the first visitor that came here by a search engine. A couple more followed and I could sometimes even see what the search terms are. This is good feedback as it shows that I am writing about topics people are interested in and are looking for. At the same time there seem to be many people that never make it past the front page, so either these people do not find any interesting topics, or it can be some kind of web crawler.

My blog however did not yet result in any comments, which makes it hard for me to know what people think of my posts. What their opinion is, are their questions answered, has it led to new insights? At the other hand I totally understand, because I never wrote a comment on a blog post either. I think this is a good time to call out to my readers that if there is a certain topic you want me to write about, or if you have any questions you can always contact me by sending an e-mail (vesters.chris@outlook.com).

I am excited at what 2016 will bring for me and my blog, as 2015 has certainly been exciting. I will remain to write blog posts, be it at a slower pace, and I hope more people will start visiting my blog. But even if that doesn’t happen, the few visitors I have can rest assured that I am not going to stop. Though my blog’s goal is still to show the outside world what I am working on, why my achievements, ideas and opinions are, I have noticed that writing about something makes you think more about it and I have gained a deeper understanding of the things I write about.
